Protecting data and devices
Check the below guidance for tips on securing your personal device and data.
How to keep your personal data safe
Whilst having convenient access to your child’s data on your mobile device has many benefits, the portability and small size of many devices can make them both easy to lose and be an easy target for thieves. Here are some simple steps you can take to protect your device.
Securing your app with a PIN code
Eduspot can be secured with a PIN code that is independent of any codes set on the device. We recommend you set one when you initially login to Eduspot. This can also be done by clicking the padlock icon in the upper left corner of the app home screen and entering a 4-digit passcode.
IMPORTANT: If your device is not secured with a password/fingerprint/PIN etc, and you have not created a PIN for Eduspot, anybody can access the app as long as it is logged in. It is strongly recommended that you secure Eduspot with a PIN, as well as taking usual precautions around securing your device.
Tracking a lost device
Apple (iOS) and Google (Android) both provide services that are designed to either help you find a lost device or remotely erase it should it be lost irretrievably. There are also third-party solutions available online.
Apple’s “Find my iPhone” service is built in to every Apple device that supports Eduspot. Please refer to Apple’s guidance to find out about this service, how to enable it and how to activate it should you lose your device.
Google’s “Android Device Manager” is available on the majority of devices that support Eduspot. Similarly, please refer to Google’s guidance for help with activating and using this service.
If your device has already been lost…
Step 1
Change your Eduspot password (if you have set one)
If your lost device is not secured using a password/fingerprint/PIN etc, and you have not created a PIN for Eduspot, and Eduspot is logged in, then anyone who finds your phone can access Eduspot. Changing your password immediately is recommended, although this may not prevent someone accessing your account if the device is already logged in.
Step 2
Use your device manufacturer’s security tools
You should make use of any Apple or Android service with which you are registered that can locate or erase the data held on your device, as mentioned above. Please note these services are provided by Apple/Google respectively and unrelated to the Eduspot app.
